The Importance of Toning

Is toning a necessary step in your skincare routine? We think so!

Toners haven’t always had a great reputation over the years, with many traditional products containing alcohol, known for stripping the skin of its natural oils and drying out the skin, leading to skin irritations, flare-ups and premature ageing.

Combine this with the fact that many of us spend our days in artificially heated or cooled environments, possibly not drinking enough water and consuming caffeine and alcohol, and we are dealing with seriously dehydrated and lacklustre skin!

Enter - a high quality, alcohol-free Toner. Putting the much-needed moisture back into the skin is one of the key qualities of a good toner. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! Hydrating the skin is an important component of your skincare regime and can result in improved skin elasticity, smoother texture, less fine lines and wrinkles and an even tone.

Living Nature’s Certified Natural, alcohol-free Toning Gels boast ingredients such as New Zealand’s Harakeke Flax Gel, Active Manuka Honey and Larch tea extract to repair dehydration by drawing moisture into the skin. Known as nature’s super skin hydrator, Harakeke contains a high quantity of natural skin nutrients and polysaccharides - naturally soothing, hydrating and cooling the skin. Independent in vitro tests show Harakeke Gel to be more hydrating, moisturising and healing than aloe vera, which is why we use it extensively in our range as an alternative to petrochemically derived synthetic gels.

A good, quality Toner can also restore the skin’s pH level. pH levels are an indication of the acidity level of your skin and are measured on a scale of 0 to 14, with 7 being considered a neutral reading for your skin’s pH level. Toners are effective at balancing the skin’s pH level, which can help your skin to be less prone to oiliness and infection, and creating a more vibrant and smoother appearance.

Toning helps to calm and balance the skin and prepare it for your next important step – applying a night cream or moisturiser. Applying a cream after toning helps to ‘lock’ in all the goodness and hydration of your Toner. Cleanse / Tone / Moisturise. Your skin will love you for it.
